Have you kept any of your old love letters?
This morning I came across one written during a very destructive relationship I had about fifteen years ago. Despite the fights, we had some amazing times together.
I have no idea what he’s doing now, or even if he’s alive (he was one of those who threatened suicide at least three times during a row). I’d love to just say hi and find out what’s happened in his life. But he’ll probably turn into a stalker. Or worse, not remember me. So I think I’ll just leave it be.
For now.

Threatening some one else with suicide?
i do – i actually have a whole box of wonderful correspondence with an ex of mine from high school. it’s a shame to chuck them. of course it’s all one-sided, and i have no idea whether she still has mine. but it does tell a story about me at the time.
My wife saw a TV programme called The Human Footprint that said that the average person knows about 1750 people in their lifetime. I started recording the people that I knew, and I’ve nearly reached 500, some of whom i haven’t seen for 40 years or more, and wonder what has happened to them.
@ aasia – Yup. Weird. He suffrered from the whole victim mentality thing. Not healthy.
@ adt – aah. Our stories, and how we’ve changed. And grown. I’m glad you’ve kept them.
@ Steve – Holy Mackerel! How on earth do you remember so many? I can just see you interrupting a conversation to jot down a newly-recalled name in your little black book. Of course, today’s kids do much the same – on Facebook!
